ThermoWood is real wood that has been baked at very high heat with steam and no chemicals. The process changes the wood's structure, so it takes on far less moisture, swells and shrinks less, and resists rot much better than the same boards left untreated. It also turns the wood a warm brown all the way through. On a covered lanai in Florida, where the air is wet for most of the year, that stability is exactly what you want over your head.
On a lanai, the boards usually run across the ceiling in tongue-and-groove rows, with cutouts for recessed lights, the ceiling fan box, and any speakers planned before the first board goes up. The same boards also make warm accent walls indoors, behind a TV or a bed. Thermally modified wood is lighter and a bit more brittle than regular lumber, so it gets pre-drilled near the ends and fastened with stainless steel, which also holds up better near salt air.
Left out in the sun, ThermoWood weathers to a silver gray like any other wood. Under a lanai roof it stays shaded, but a UV-blocking oil or finish keeps the brown tone longer, and that choice gets talked through up front. From Siesta Key to Lakewood Ranch the summer humidity is the same, so this is a material that fits the whole area. For an estimate, send the lanai's length, width, and ceiling height, plus a photo looking up.

Plain pine is a common lanai ceiling board, but it soaks up moisture and can cup, stain, or mildew over time without a good finish. Cedar resists rot naturally but still moves with the humidity. ThermoWood gets its rot resistance from heat instead of chemicals, stays more stable through wet and dry seasons, and is brown through the whole board.
Any wood that sees sunlight slowly turns silver gray, and ThermoWood is no exception. Under a covered lanai it holds its color much longer than on an open deck, and a UV-protective oil or finish slows the change further. Some people like the gray. If you want the brown to last, we plan a finish for it.
Yes. It makes a warm accent wall or ceiling in a living room, behind a TV, or in a bedroom. Indoors it is chosen mostly for its color and its stability, and it pairs well with LED strip lighting, black hardware, and dark painted walls like the shiplap TV walls in our gallery.
