A custom range hood has two parts. Inside is the hood insert, the fan and filter unit that actually moves the air. Outside is the cover, the part you see, built in wood or MDF and finished to match your cabinets. That split gives you the look of a built-in hood with a fan sized for the way you cook. The insert's instructions set how wide it should be compared to your cooktop and how high it mounts above the burners.
Venting gets settled first. A ducted hood sends air outside through a wall or the roof, which clears heat and moisture best. A recirculating hood filters the air and returns it to the kitchen, which works when a duct run is not practical. Either way, the path is decided before the cover is built, so the duct or the vent stays hidden inside the hood box. The cover can be a clean box between upper cabinets, a tapered chimney shape, or one wrapped in trim.
The backsplash ties the wall together. Herringbone, subway, and stacked patterns all work, and the layout gets centered on the range so the cut tiles land evenly at both ends. Outlets are marked out so the cuts around them stay neat, and under-cabinet LED lighting shows the pattern off at night. For an estimate in the Sarasota area, send the width of the stove wall, the cooktop size, a photo of your cabinets, and a picture of the tile or hood style you like.

Ducting to the outside does the best job of clearing heat, smoke, and moisture, which counts in a humid Florida kitchen. If there is no practical path outside, a recirculating insert with charcoal filters is the fallback. The insert maker's instructions spell out what each option needs, and the cover gets built around that.
That is the usual goal. The cover gets built from a similar material and finished in the same paint or stain, with matching crown or trim, so it looks like it came with the kitchen. A clear photo of your cabinet doors in daylight helps us get the color and profile right.
It helps. The tile has to stop cleanly where it meets the hood, so building the cover first and tiling up to it gives a tighter finish than fitting a new hood against tile that is already on the wall. Doing both at once also keeps the layout centered on one plan.
